In stable environments, entrepreneurs can open new businesses, companies can more safely invest their resources, children can receive a quality education, and governments and citizens can work together to protect natural resources. However, in countries and communities burdened by conflict, violent extremism, and high rates of crime and violence, the opportunities for growth and development are severely impacted. At SSG, we design and implement integrated solutions to conflict, citizen security, and violent extremism through community engagement, training, online communities of practice, top-tier analysis, public-private partnerships, and rapid responses to evolving needs and expectations. We have a team of technical experts in conflict resolution, countering violent extremism (CVE), and citizen security who also bring expertise in youth, civil society strengthening, and a variety of other sectors across Africa, Asia, the Middle East, and Latin America. With proven experience implementing projects in countries affected by fragility, conflict, and violence, SSG develops innovative development solutions to support secure communities throughout the world.
- Countering Violent Extremism in Africa. Through capacity building for community stakeholders, local government, and U.S. Government staff, context-specific risk and resiliency assessments, and an online community of practice to promote collaborative solutions, SSG is implementing multifaceted and context-specific approaches to address the root causes of violent extremism in the Middle East and Africa.
- Actionable Recommendations for Security Sector Reform in Palestine. Using a mixed-methods, data-based approach, SSG evaluated Department of State’s Palestinian Authority Security Sector Reform Program (PA SSRP), and identified room for program improvement and proposed solutions to meet identified needs.
- Supporting Peace and Preventing Violent Extremism in the Middle East and North Africa. Through the Countering Violent Extremism in the Middle East and North Africa (CoVE-MENA) program, SSG is generating knowledge and innovative, effective strategies for CVE in the MENA region as well as providing trainings to U.S. government staff, host government staff, and other key stakeholders on development approaches to CVE.
