I started my career in investment banking and corporate finance following graduate school. Following the global finance crisis in 2008, my career evolved to fund management where I spent close to three years as a venture capitalist in East Africa. My work involved organizational restructuring, capital deployment and investment strategy preparations, due diligence, proactive deal sourcing, reposition, and value enhancement of investments. I developed an interest in enterprise development especially the low-end market. I have worked with various regional, national, and international organizations including International Finance Corporation (IFC), USAID, Winrock International, Multi-donor Trust Fund, Adam Smith International, Technoserve, African Wildlife Foundation, and Suntra Investment Bank, among others. Joining SSG Advisors as Public Private Partnership Specialist has been a great opportunity to take my career to an exciting new area where many international development organizations are heading.
My work as a Public Private Partnership Specialist with SSG entails leading private sector engagement efforts across the five East African partner states of Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, and Uganda in the USAID funded PREPARED project. I identify key private sector players, and actively pursue, negotiate, and manage identified opportunities. I also premote the designing, brokering, and building of public-private partnerships and investment packages at the national, regional, and community levels to leverage project resources in order to achieve increased scale and improved effectiveness, efficiency and sustainability.
I hold a Masters in Business Administration with a concentration in finance along with a Bachelor of Science in Agribusiness Management, both from Egerton University in Kenya. I am also certified as a Master Trainer in Enterprise Development by the International Labor Organization. I also hold a diploma in housing finance from the University of Pennsylvania, and am a World Bank trained governance and sustainable development specialist and alumnus of the Copenhagen Business School (CBS) Business Mentorship and Coaching post-graduate program.
I spend more time building my retirement farm in the village while promoting Improve Your Village initiative to empower my village mates to commercialize their homes through agricultural production. I also dedicate my Saturdays to church service with my family.
